This is the version with the rivers supplement included. Carcassonne is a tile laying game where the board expands as you lay tiles. You generate roads, cities and farmland and build temples. You populate these areas with a finite number of 'men'. Although you get them back as the game progresses, a good player can find ways of locking his opponents men on the board, and thus stopping them earn points as the game goes on. A good mix of luck and strategy. Really nice game components, quick to learn, hard to master, and challenging. The extension sets are good value and add new dimensions to the game. They don't over compicate things unlike some game expansions we have seen in the past. Great introductory game for older kids too. [more info]

expansion cards for carcassonne There is another river in the Carcassonne region. Like the first river, you can use these 12 tiles to start a Carcassonne game instead of the normal start tile. But, there is more. It can be used with the other river, to make an even longer river to start the game. It has a branch, so you get the effect of two rivers instead of one. Its tiles have some of the features of the larger expansions: Inns & Cathedrals, Traders & Builders, and Princess & Dragon. As always, you need the original Carcassonne to play with it, but you can use bits from the other expansions, too, if you like. [more info]
