| What are Collectible Card Games anyway? Collectible Card Games (known as CCGs) are generally complete games systems played using a deck of cards instead of a board and playing pieces. Players are able to customise the pack of cards they use to play the game (their playing deck) by selecting its contents from the selection of cards they own. The clever thing is that new cards can be produced every so often to update and expand the game. The even cleverer thing is that some of these cards are rarer than others, some are 'better' than others and some look really nice too. This makes individual cards collectible, especially the good, rare AND pretty ones!
Examples of CCGs are: Magic: the Gathering Star Wars Star Trek Lord of the Rings
You can buy starter sets that provide a good selection of cards and all the rules for play, special pre-made sets that focus on a particular theme, extra 'booster' packs containing a random selection of cards from a set, or individual cards.
We have a few products in our catalogue
Cards are often available for sale or trade on the internet, with e-bay a particularly good place to look.
| Lord of the Rings CCG Decipher Inc. have released a new card game based on the Lord of the Rings. (dont confuse it with another older now out of print card game of the same name!). We have an interview with the game designers at Decipher.
