Players try to outdo each other in building pyramids and growing crops, but must watch out for floods and droughts along the nile. We've played this a few times, and it continues to surprise us with the degree of strategy you can use in it. The more you play, the more you see new options and different strategies opening up. Well worth a go, and the game looks good on the table too!

Great Strategy game with a medieval spanish setting. Involves bidding for cards and rather a lot of strategic skill! The players are the Grandes in old Spain. Each wants to increase his influence at the court and in the regions. Each turn, the players choose from 5 actions, different on each turn. But first choice goes to the player who plays the highest priority card and you have only 13 for the game. Choose your actions and priorities wisely to become the most powerful Grande and win the game! This Decennial version also contains the expansions previously known as Intrigue & the King, Grand Inquisitor & the Colonies, The King and the Colonies and Grandissimo. In Intrigue & the King, each player has 18 or 28 cards that replace the action cards from the basic game. Before the game begins, each player chooses 13 cards to be his action/priority deck for the game. The players use these cards instead of the action a nd priority cards in determining turn order and special actions. Grand Inquisitor & the Colonies adds four new regions, the Grand Inquisitor, and new action cards to support these additions. The new action cards are in two new stack, giving players seven options on each turn instead of the five from the basic game. By combining the two, you can play The King & the Colonies. The old king is dying without an heir, and the country is in turmoil. Four lords have come to the capital city, each claiming to be the king's rightful successor. Now the lords are vying for control of the city, for they know that who ever wins the city will win the throne. You and your opponents are playing the feudal lords, trying to secure your claims by surrounding the most important locations in the capital (such as the palace, the royal library, and the wizard's tower) with shops, barracks, and other city districts under your control. Watch where you place your districts, however, because your opponents may build their neighborhoods over yours, or worse - send the dragon to burn your territory down.

He did such a good job, that postal services in the country continue to be connected with the name Thurn and Taxis. With the introduction of postal carriages in the middle of the 17th century, members of the family were raised to Count status and given the hereditary title of Postmaster General. The game begins at this point in history. Can you emulate the achievements of this family and build a successful postal network? Do you have the talent to connect the right cities to create an effective network and not lose sight of the need to acquire new carriages when they are needed? Plan your moves carefully and watch your opponents’ moves carefully, so you are prepared to respond to them. A bidding game with an ancient Egyptian setting. Good game with replay value, and its a great way to get older children into these types of boardgames. For new or occasional gamers, it is an ideal introduction to fantasy gaming. If you’ve seen The Lord of the Rings movies, this is all understandable. It starts off a little like Monopoly, roll the dice, move around, collect things. But then as you get into it, the wide variety of adventures and events starts to take over, so few games are like any other. And even as an advanced, regular gamer, there is the lure of trying to master it, to grasp every possible combination and win the game regardless of what the Fates throw at you from those randomly shuffled events decks. Plus, it looks great and it’s all made of real high quality materials. And because, well, we tried to think of everything -- hell, we even put loads of dice in so you don’t always have to go scrabbling for a six-sider hidden amongst the discard decks when it’s your go.

Each player is the director of an expedition intent on exploring Tikal in search of the secret paths that lead to the temples and precious treasures that have remained hidden for over 1000 years. Its a tile laying game where players compete to build and fight over settlements in the Cradle of Civilization. Lovely board, with nice solid wooden parts and thick card counters.
