Murder? At a dinner party? I say, what an utterly terrible situation to find oneself in!
Dinner Party Murder Games provide a fully self contained evening of fun for parties of (usually) six to eight friends. All you need to add is a bit of open-mindedness, a few glasses of wine and a sense of fun!
Whats it all about? You and your guests are suspects in a murder recently discovered. Each of you will assume the role of a major character in the plot, possibly with a motive to commit murder, a hidden secret or two, a past trying to catch up with you.... As the evening unfolds, you will be given clues, motives, alibies, murder weapons and an opportunity to solve whatever hideous crime has been commited.
The games are set in a variety of eras and places, from classic 1920's high society to dark medieval castles, the Wild West to the Orient Express and everything in between. You don't need costume or props to play (although you might want to get into the spirit of things), just a sense of humor and a scheeming twisted mind.......
Most games contain a cassette tape revealing the details of the murder, a host guide with step by step instructions, secret clues and a diagram or plan of the crime scene. Individual name places, invitations and 'personal information' are provided for each player, and there may be prop and costume suggestions for the players too.
These games rely on your ability to assume a role and play a character according to simple but effective guidelines. Its a friendly form of Role Playing, but you will not need dice or rule books, boards or counters, just an imagination and an open mind.
Get into the spirit, and your WILL have a great evenings entertainment.
What are the options? Well, you can buy a boxed game or you can go for a game you download over the 'net. The boxed games are pretty linear, and in some cases tightly scripted. They can be played in a few hours, and follow a proven formula. However, you must have the right number of players or it won't work! They are ideal for 'first timers' or those of you who have a few hours to play the games.
Generally, if you download a game from the 'net, you get a far more developed game with many more optioons and less of a linear path. The people who make these games spend a LOT of time getting it right. They don't have the overheads of making the box and printing etc, so they can put far more effort into getting a great game.
