If you are unable
to find enough players for a game of Settlers of Catan, then we
suggest you try the two player card game based on the best selling
board game series
To call it a
'card game' belittles this classic. True, its played with cards,
but the cards themselves form the playing area that behaves in a
similar fashion to the Settlers board game. Its important to note
this is not a collectable trading card game like Magic or Pokemon,
so you get all you need to play in the box. No extras required,
no more money to spend!
Each
player uses land type cards to expand her empire, and builds roads,
towns and cities with the resources the land cards provide. The
towns and cities can be upgraded with buildings and fleets of ships
and defended with knights. These ideas are similar to the Cities
and Knights expansion to the Settlers board game. Dice are used
to determine which lands produce resources which can be used to
build or play knights. Another dice determines if any extra 'world'
events take place using either cards from a special events pile
(plagues effect all cities, progress allows players to gain extra
resources etc) or fixed actions such as 'strongest player gets extra
resources' etc.
By building
up the commercial and political buildings in a city, points are
gained. First to 12 is the winner! Beware though, as your sneaky
opponent may want to spy on you, steal your plans, force you to
trade unfavorable or simply try to burn a building to the ground!
This is a great
game we highly recommend to Settlers fans and general games lovers
alike.
10/10
