7th
Sea Roleplaying from Alderac Entertainment Group
is a fantasy roleplaying game of heroic daring-do.
A comprehensive background, great production, atmospheric
written style and great game mechanics really bring this
flamboyant era to life. If you ever wanted to play Captain
Blood, the Three Musketeers or the Scarlet Pimpernel,
then this is the game for you.
All
you really need to play is the Players Guide, so starting
off can be cheap! If you enjoy it (and you will!) then
there is a Games Masters book full of ideas, secret knowledge
and new guidelines.
One
step further sees the 'Nations of Theah' sourcebooks which
detail each of the countries featured in the system. They
allow experienced players to develop characters from the
specific nationality with much more background than the
basic system allows. They also contain great atmospheric
ideas and new guidelines for the GM, and help to flavour
the campaign world.
Take
a look at the Avalon cover for a bit of atmosphere, all
dark and very Shakesperian. The Montaigns, well, they
are all pomp and arrogance, as you can see! Its strange
that even before the final nation books are released,
the first one, Pirate Nations, is out of print.....
The
great city of Frieburg, where heroes (and villains) of
all nationalities and societies rub shoulders, has now
been documented and is available as a boxed set with a
great map and loads of background, ideas, plotlines and
adventure. Note that supplies of Freiburg are erratic,
order
yours now!
This
product shows the care and attention that AEG put into
the system. It has some great maps and three supplemental
books covering all aspects of city life. Don't let this
game pass you by, its a classic! (See Revenants
Review for more info).
A
set of 'Secret Society' sourcebooks are also available,
taking a look at many of the societies hinted at in the
main rules. They provide full information allowing you
to play characters devoted to one of these sects, with
advanced knacks, new skills, backgrounds and goals. Examples
include the Knights of the Rose and Cross, Sophias Daughters
and the upcoming Church of the Prophets.
See
Revenants site
for a complete list of 7th Sea titles (and loads of other
great resources), or visit the official AEG
site.
